Field Organizer – Multiple Positions Available

The Kansas Democratic Party is hiring full-time organizers for a statewide coordinated field program. Organizers will be responsible for executing the statewide field plan within their assigned turf and will report to their Regional Field Director. As the local face of the Kansas Democratic Party, organizers must possess strong social skills, a desire to elect Democrats, and be committed to giving their best effort at all times.

Organizers will be expected to relocate to a city in Kansas and be prepared to run an office for the Kansas Democratic Party. Accordingly organizers must possess reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and most importantly the ability to be self-directed and to function independently.

Experience as an organizer or a fellow is desirable, but training will be held for all staff and those seeking their first job in politics are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Identify, recruit, and train groups of volunteers to conduct voter contact, registration and more
  • Lead/train volunteers through the various phases of the campaign
  • Ensure accurate collection and entry of data
  • Provide the Regional Field Director with quantitative and qualitative reports as part of an ongoing evaluation of the program’s success
  • Cooperate with County and District leaders to achieve shared goals and grow local organizations
  • Hit all metrics/goals for volunteer recruitment, voter contact and other program elements
  • Support local Democratic organizations by keeping office hours and lending help when available

Qualifications and Skills

  • Understanding common technology with an emphasis on Google Docs, general use of Windows computers, familiarity with cell phones, Excel, and the ability to learn new tools
  • Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and written

Campus Organizer – Multiple Positions Available

The Kansas Democratic Party is looking to hire two to three campus organizers from the beginning of August through the November election. The position would pay around $500 a month for 10 to 15 hours a week, and the job would primarily consist of volunteer recruitment, voter registration, canvassing, and phone banking efforts. This is an incredible opportunity for students to gain valuable leadership and grassroots organizing experience while contributing to the outcome of the 2018 election.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Creating a plan over the summer to meet voter contact goals before election day

  • Recruiting, engaging, and mobilizing students to volunteer

  • Conducting volunteer trainings

  • Achieving ambitious voter registration and pledge to vote goals

  • Organizing and running voter contact activities like phone banks, text banks, and canvassing events

  • Building relationships with faculty and administrators and creating partnerships with other student and community groups

  • Presenting at campus organization meetings and events

  • Entering, organizing, and maintaining the data from all events and interactions

  • Utilizing social media to amplify our message and preparing and distributing promotional materials for events

  • Regularly attending conference calls or meetings with parent organization and providing frequent progress updates

  • Planning and executing events with other campaign staff, fellows, and volunteers within the community or on campus

  • Generating and maintaining the grassroots support needed to win elections


  • We will have positions in diverse communities throughout Kansas
  • We welcome applicants who are members of the various communities we will be organizing in including, but not limited to, Latinx, Native American, Retiree, Students, African American, and LGBTQIA
  • All field organizers will be trained on how to relate to and interact with communities that are not their own

Required Qualifications:

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and verbal and written communication

  • Experience meeting deadlines, and the ability to manage many tasks simultaneously

  • Self-motivated and willing to work unusual hours (including nights and weekends)

  • Proven leadership and management skills

  • Strong work ethic

  • Passion for making positive social change

  • Must be an enrolled student

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least one election cycle of field organizing or volunteer experience

  • A working knowledge of the structure of political campaigns and familiarity with campaign technology, including VoteBuilder

  • Prior experience canvassing, phone banking, and/or registering voters
