Republican Trade War Batters Kansas Farmers

Topeka, KS – “Kansas Republicans have failed to protect working Kansans from a devastating, self-inflicted trade war with our closest allies and trading partners,” said KDP Executive Director Ethan Corson. “Make no mistake, almost every part of the Kansas economy will suffer because of these unfair and reckless actions. Our top exports of aircraft, wheat, beef, soybean, corn, and sorghum are specifically targeted, and most Kansans will face higher prices for products they regularly buy.”

“Kansas Republicans first increased our health insurance premiums by repeatedly trying to rip insurance away from countless Kansans and eliminate protections for pre-existing conditions. They then gave massive tax cuts to wealthy corporations and their party’s donors instead of helping working Kansans. Now Kansas Republicans are doing nothing after sitting on their hands as the threat of a trade war grew.”

“Kansas Democrats are fighting for everyday Kansans,” Corson said. “Whether it’s farmers already struggling with falling commodity prices and extreme weather, public school teachers grappling with eight years of state funding cuts, or the parents working multiple minimum wage jobs just to stay afloat, Kansans deserve better.”
