Statement on Gov. Sam Brownback’s Confirmation to Ambassadorship
Topeka, KS – Gov. Sam Brownback’s confirmation as U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom marks the end of one of the most disastrous governorships in Kansas history. The Brownback legacy is one of hundred million dollar budget shortfalls, school shutdowns, an economy that lags behind neighboring states, crumbling roads and bridges, and credit downgrades. While Brownback may be going to D.C., unfortunately his policies will remain right here in Kansas. Lt. Gov. Jeff Colyer, whose major action in office was throwing the state’s Medicaid program into privatized disrepair, has been the most aggressive defender of the failed Brownback agenda. Meanwhile Secretary of State Kris Kobach has made the basis of his campaign a return to Brownback-era tax policy. To truly move beyond Brownback, we need to elect a Democrat as governor this November.
