Statement on Trump’s Termination of DACA
Topeka, KS –
Trump’s termination of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program runs counter to the moral character and economic interests of Kansas and the nation. Kansas’ congressional delegation must find a solution before DACA’s curtailment is enforced.
An estimated 6,800 DACA recipients call Kansas home and contribute nearly $336 million to our state’s annual GDP. For many of them, it’s the only home they’ve ever known. They are everyday Kansans – our neighbors, classmates, nurses, and workers. They were brought here as children, fleeing horrific situations unimaginable to most of us. Deporting them is not just the wrong thing to do, it’s costly to Kansas’ future.
