Statement on 90-Day Rule Hearing
TOPEKA, KS – This morning Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach held a public hearing on his proposed change to the voter registration statute that threatens to deny more than 30,000 Kansans access to the ballot. The Kansas Democratic Party Executive Director Kerry Gooch issued this statement following today’s hearing:
If Kris Kobach spent half as much time and energy helping Kansans register to vote as he does attempting to block Kansas citizens from voting, every eligible Kansan would be registered. Kobach’s partisan political maneuvering harm Kansas and undermine our democracy.
I was also disappointed that Sec. Kobach failed to even attend this morning’s hearing. If Sec. Kobach wants to take radical action that disenfranchises thousands of Kansas voters, he should at least have the courage and decency to show up to his own public hearing.
